Looking after your earlobes!

It’s all very well and good buying lovely and fun earrings to highlight your ears but earrings will only look good if you have taken good care of your ears.

You need to use proper hygiene and attention in order to prevent attention prevent infections, irritation, and physical damage.  Some ways to ensure good practice in care of your earlobes include:

  • Limit Earring Weight: Avoid heavy dangling earrings for extended periods to prevent the piercing hole from stretching or tearing
  • Moisturize: Use gentle, fragrance-free lotions or natural oils (like jojoba oil) to keep the skin elastic and prevent dryness or cracking, especially if you have stretched lobes
  • Sun Protection: The skin on your lobes is delicate; apply a broad-spectrum, water-proof SPF 30 or higher daily to protect against sun damage and premature aging
  • Earlobe Repair: If you have severe stretching, a torn lobe (from a heavy earring or trauma), or large scar tissue (keloids), minor in-office surgical repair is a common option

And if you have just had a new ear piercing, you need to be extra careful as it takes a good 6 – 12 weeks to heal.  Bearing in that in mind,

  • Clean Properly: Wash hands before touching your ears. Spray both the front and back of the piercing two to three times a day using a sterile saline wound wash
  • Do Not Twist or Remove: Leave the starter jewellery in 24/7 for at least six weeks. Do not twist, rotate, or move the jewellery unnecessarily, as this can irritate the healing tissue
  • Keep Dry & Avoid Pools: Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel after showering. Avoid swimming in pools, hot tubs, or natural bodies of water for at least four weeks to prevent infection
  • Skip Harsh Chemicals: Do not use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or antibacterial ointments, as they dry out the skin and delay the healing process

Hope that helps and your earlobes can shine with the adornment of our fun and lovely earrings!
